Fly fishing is what put Tipiliuke Lodge on the map more than 20 years ago. Considered by many to be one of the worlds’ top fly fishing destinations, Tipiliuke, in Northern Patagonia, is home to more than 17 miles of the finest trout waters on the planet (including 9 miles of the well known ChimehuĂn river). The guides at Tipiliuke are among the best in the business and can be found working all over the world after the local season closes in Argentina.
The fishing season runs from early November through to May. A typical day of fishing begins with a made to order breakfast before heading to the river around 0930. Anglers head to the wading room at the lodge before driving to their selected water for the morning. Tipiliuke has access to two very different, but equally impressive rivers, the ChimehuĂn and Quilquihue, running through the heart of the 50,000 acre Estancia, known worldwide for their crystal clear waters and legendary trout fishing. In addition, they have 3 miles of private spring creek fishing for the exclusive use of our guests. While the vast majority of the fish at Tipiliuke are caught on dry flies, they will occasionally use a nymph in conjunction with the dries. You will return to the lodge around 1430 for a delicious lunch, usually served outside under the shade of 100 year old trees. All meals are paired with the finest Argentine wines.
In the afternoon, anglers usually return to the river around 1800, depending on the time of year, and fish until dusk. It is during the last 30 minutes of light that you may use a large streamer to coax out one of the monster browns the ChimehuĂn is famous for. Whilst the typical fish would average 14-20 inches, each season they catch monster browns approaching the 30 inch mark. For the more adventurous, Tipiliuke can also offer fishing on the upper and lower ChimehuĂn from one of their custom drift boats. After a great day on the water, you will return to the lodge for cocktails and dinner.
