The focus on the Rio Gallegos would be the fantastic sea run brown trout fishing. This is what the Rio Gallegos is famous for. However, the main river also offers fantastic brown trout fishing, which are a welcome distraction when the sea trout are not taking. However, for those that love their brown trout fishing, the star of the show would be the Rio Chico. This is a small spring creek that feeds into the Rio Gallegos. It doesn’t look much, but it offers fantastic dry fly fishing. Make sure to check out the video. The brown trout average around 3lb, but specimens of 6-7lb are present.
You can fish the Rio Gallegos with a single hander, and this is a great choice if the river is low and clear. However, as a rule, and given the size of the river, a double hander is best – a 13ft is ideal. On the Rio Chico, something around 9ft for a #5 is perfect.
