Los Roques in Venezuela is one of the most diverse saltwater fisheries that exists. Whereas many destinations excel in one or two species, Los Roques offers an abundance of several species, meaning that everyday can present a new challenge and learning experience.
As a result, it’s a great location for the experienced saltwater angler, as they can specifically target their favourite species each day. However, it’s also a magical destination for beginners, because they get to learn how to target different species and experience the specific qualities of each one.
Due to vast numbers of bonefish present in Los Roques, it also makes a great place to learn (a great fishing school environment) how to strip strike etc. as there should be multiple chances each day without blowing golden opportunities or opportunities being few and far between, which is often the case at other destinations.
You can set out in search of a big tarpon, a tailing permit, parrotfish and triggerfish along the reef edge, or take it easy and fish around the massive shoals of bonefish present. These are just a handful of the species present and open to target during your stay. You can even go Bluewater fishing, which opens up a whole different world of possibilities.
FishTravel wants to make money, but also believes in giving back to the environment and fishing community along the way – this is very much an underpinned ethos. From the environmental side, make sure to read about what FishTravel does HERE.
In terms of giving back to the community, one way that FishTravel achieves this is by creating opportunities for young anglers to experience world-class destinations without paying the regular rate. We work with the lodges and operators to create ‘Youth Weeks’ that are heavily discounted, yet still offer the exact same experience as those paying full price. FishTravel fully appreciates that most young anglers can only dream about visiting such destinations. Now these dreams can become a reality.
We are proud to offer the following in collaboration with Fly Fishing Los Roques to anyone aged 35 or under at the time of booking.
DATES: 1-8TH NOVEMBER 2025
AVAILABILITY: 10 RODS
COST: US$4,490 PER ROD! (NORMALLY US$6,600)
The cost includes 7 nights’ accommodation with 6 full days guided fishing. Transfers and hotel stay on the mainland, and the flight to / from the island. Shared room at the lodge on a full-board basis, shared guide / skiff. Not included are your international flights, tips, tourist tax, and alcohol at the lodge.
This is a fantastic time of year to visit Los Roques. The water tends to be higher at this time of the year, which makes it great for targeting the larger migratory tarpon. Permit should be up on the Pancake Flats too, given the extra water height. Still plenty of wade fishing opportunities on the flats, so very much the best of both worlds and an amazing overall experience.
