ICELAND; MINNIVALLALAEKUR RIVER TROUT FISHING 2024 PRICES & AVAILABILITY

If you’re looking for a private river and lodge for just four anglers, where you have a chance of landing some truly huge, wild brown trout then the Minnivallalaekur (Minni) River in the South of Iceland is for you. Best of all, this is all yours for just £400 a day per person to include your accommodation and fishing! Or even less if you want to bring more people to either share the fishing or stay as non-anglers.

MINNIVALLALAEKUR – ICELAND

In the south of Iceland runs one of the finest wild brown trout rivers you will find. This is a technical river, but for those with a stealthy and patient approach, there is a chance of landing a true fish of a lifetime on the Minni. Trout of up to 20 lbs have been landed, with specimens around the 10 lbs mark recorded every season – often caught on dry fly.

The Minni is a relatively small stream, running crystal clear. There are faster flowing sections, but a lot of the river is slowly meandering, in almost a chalkstream-esque fashion. Getting around is very easy on the grassy meadows and some of the best pools are to be found within easy walking distance of the lodge.

The very well appointed lodge is self catering (catering can be arranged) and the fishing is unguided (guided days can be arranged). This is a great place to escape and explore at your leisure. There are four twin bedrooms in total, so the lodge can accommodate up to eight people – rod sharing and non-anglers are welcome.

The lodge is spacious, comfortable, well appointed, and very well equipped. There is even a hot-tub on the veranda! You have a clear view of Mount Hekla from the river and lodge, with the town of Hella within easy reach for supplies. The lodge and river is easily reached from both Keflavik and Reykjavik, being around a two hour drive along the south coast from Reykjavik.

The river is a technical one; very much a case of quality over quantity. Do not visit the Minni expecting to catch loads of fish per day and appreciate that unless you’re stealthy in your approach then there will be little reward.

2024 SEASON PRICES & AVAILABILITY
There is good availability for the 2024 season at the moment, with late-June through to late-August being the prime period for those looking to specifically fish with dry fly. This can be weather dependent, of course, but this is usually the prime period. Inclement weather will often call for streamer and nymph fishing, regardless of the time of year.

Bookings are for a minimum of three days (flexible length of stay thereafter), and you get the whole lodge and river exclusively for £1,600 per day. A maximum amount of rods allowed to fish at one time is four, but rod sharing is available, and non-anglers are also welcome at the lodge. There are four twin bedrooms, which will accommodate up to eight people. As such, eight people taking the lodge and river exclusively would pay just £200 each per day!

These prices include exclusive use of the lodge and river. Transfers, car hire, catering, guiding is not included – can be added as needed.
