19–26 February 2027 | All six rods currently available during one of the finest weeks of the Rio Grande season

If you have been considering fishing the legendary Rio Grande for its giant sea trout, this is a week we would particularly recommend.
All six rods are currently available at Howenh Lodge from 19–26 February 2027, providing a rare opportunity to fish one of the world’s greatest sea trout rivers at the very heart of its prime season.
These are superb dates.
By the second half of February, substantial numbers of sea trout have entered the Rio Grande, while fresh fish continue to arrive from the sea. It is this combination of numbers of fish already in the system and continued freshness that makes late February such a desirable time to visit Tierra del Fuego.
Rods can be booked individually, but with the entire six-rod lodge currently available, we would particularly like to hear from anyone interested in putting together a private or hosted group.

WHY 19–26 FEBRUARY?
Timing is hugely important when planning a Rio Grande trip.
Earlier in the season, anglers can encounter beautifully fresh fish entering from the Atlantic, but overall numbers in the river are naturally still building.
As the season progresses, those numbers increase.
The 19–26 February week offers a particularly attractive balance. By then, large numbers of sea trout should be distributed throughout the river, while new fish continue to enter.
This gives anglers opportunities to encounter both substantial numbers of fish and the powerful, fresh sea trout for which the Rio Grande has become famous.
And these aren’t ordinary sea trout.
Double-figure fish are a realistic prospect on the Rio Grande and every season produces exceptional specimens considerably larger.
It is one of very few places where every cast genuinely carries the possibility of hooking the sea trout of a lifetime.

MORE THAN 30KM OF THE RIO GRANDE
Howenh Lodge controls access to more than 30 kilometres of prime Rio Grande fishing, stretching through the middle reaches towards the Chilean border.
With a maximum of only six rods each week, that provides an extraordinary amount of fishing for each angler.
The water comprises a varied selection of pools, runs and glides, allowing guides to respond to changing river and weather conditions throughout the week.
Most importantly, the lodge is situated on the river itself.
This means you are staying beside the water you have travelled halfway around the world to fish, rather than spending large amounts of valuable fishing time travelling backwards and forwards each day.

JUST SIX ANGLERS
Howenh accommodates only six fishing guests each week.
Each angler enjoys a single room, while fishing is guided on a shared basis with two anglers fishing with each guide.
The small number of guests creates exactly the atmosphere we like in a fishing lodge – relaxed, sociable and centred entirely around the fishing.
After each session, guests return to the lodge for excellent food, drinks and the inevitable discussion about the fish landed, lost and hopefully waiting for you the following day.

BOOK AN INDIVIDUAL ROD
You certainly don’t need to assemble a group to take advantage of these dates.
Individual rods are available for 19–26 February 2027.
This makes Howenh an excellent option for anglers travelling alone or with one or two friends who want to join a small group for a prime Rio Grande week.
With only six anglers in total, groups quickly become acquainted and the shared experience is an important part of a week in Tierra del Fuego.

WANT TO BRING THE WHOLE GROUP?
At the time of writing, however, all six rods remain available.
That creates another opportunity.
If you are a fishing guide, host, club organiser or simply have a group of friends who have always talked about fishing the Rio Grande together, please speak to FishTravel before booking individual rods.
We may be able to put together a special arrangement for a complete group or hosted week.
Depending on the group and arrangements available, there may also be opportunities to structure the cost advantageously for the host or to spread any host benefit across the anglers travelling.
If you think you could assemble four, five or six anglers, get in touch and let’s have a conversation.

LOOKING FOR EVEN BETTER VALUE? 22–29 JANUARY
There is another Howenh opportunity worth highlighting for anglers whose priority is value and the chance of targeting the earlier-running sea trout.
Rods remain available from:
22–29 January 2027 – US$5,700 per angler, plus fishing licence.
That’s a saving of US$2,625 per rod compared with the prime-season rate.
January naturally means fewer fish will have accumulated in the river than during late February, but what it sacrifices in overall numbers it can compensate for with the opportunity to encounter fresh, early-running sea trout.
For US$5,700 for a full week of guided Rio Grande fishing, single-room accommodation, meals and lodge services, we think it represents outstanding value.
TWO VERY DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES
Which week should you choose?
If your priority is maximising the combination of fish numbers, fresh arrivals and prime-season fishing, our pick is straightforward:
19–26 February 2027.
If budget is a greater consideration and you like the idea of targeting the earlier-running fish before the river reaches its peak-season occupancy:
22–29 January 2027 at US$5,700 is exceptionally difficult to ignore.
Either way, you are fishing more than 30 kilometres of the world’s most famous sea trout river with a maximum of just six anglers.

INTERESTED?
Individual rods can be reserved for either week.
For 19–26 February, we would also particularly like to hear from guides, hosts, fishing clubs or groups of friends interested in taking several rods – or potentially the entire lodge.
Speak to us and we’ll see what we can arrange.
