Bella Sofia Lodge is located on the prime middle reaches of the Rio Gallegos in the Santa Cruz Province of Argentina. The lodge itself is located around 98km from the town of Rio Gallegos, making it easy to access, especially given the direct flights to / from Buenos Aires.

Previously known as Bella Vista (a really famous lodge), Bella Sofia also added the fishing of Estancia Sofia to its portfolio, hence ‘Bella Sofia’. It now has access to some 65km of the Rio Gallegos, along with a further 18km of a beautiful spring creek named ‘Rio Chico’. Between the two, you have access to amazing sea trout and brown trout fishing.
The lodge accommodates just six anglers per week, across four single rooms and one twin room. all with en-suite bathrooms. Your stay is on an all-inclusive basis, with the lodge being extremely comfortable and well appointed. If you’re after great fishing but also an unsurpassed level of service when you return to the lodge, then read on.

BELLA SOFIA LODGE has access to 65km of the prime middle reaches of the Rio Gallegos, equating to over 10km of river per rod! In addition to this, it also has a further 18km of the Rio Chico. As such, overall, you have around 13km per rod to cover! An amazing amount of water, which highlights how lightly fished the water is.
The focus on the Rio Gallegos would be the fantastic sea run brown trout fishing. This is what the Rio Gallegos is famous for. However, the main river also offers fantastic brown trout fishing, which are a welcome distraction when the sea trout are not taking. However, for those that love their brown trout fishing, the star of the show would be the Rio Chico. This is a small spring creek that feeds into the Rio Gallegos. It doesn’t look much, but it offers fantastic dry fly fishing. Make sure to check out the video. The brown trout average around 3lb, but specimens of 6-7lb are present.

You can fish the Rio Gallegos with a single hander, and this is a great choice if the river is low and clear. However, as a rule, and given the size of the river, a double hander is best – a 13ft is ideal. On the Rio Chico, something around 9ft for a #5 is perfect. FishTravel will give indepth tackle advice and recommendations as part of your booking.
