ICELAND 2 RIVER COMBINATION – 2026 SEASON

A two river / lodge combination on a self-catering, unguided basis that offers amazing value for money. A full six days of fishing with six nights accommodation for just £1,725 per person! Loads of images in the gallery below.

Fishing two rivers over six days with private use of the lodges and beats during your stay. Amazing experience and fantastic value for money. Fishing a small, intimate river named the Brynjudalsa, which is located around forty-five minutes north of Reykjavik for salmon and sea trout. Before moving on to the Lower Grimsa River near Borgarnes to fish for salmon and sea trout for a further three days. Two very different locations and experiences during one fantastic holiday.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive at the Brynjudalsa River and Lodge, which is located around forty-five minutes’ drive north of Reykjavik (it’s in the next valley over from the Laxa i Kjos). Arrive at the lodge at around 1500, then start fishing at 1600 – the river is located around fifty metres from the lodge! With most of the best pools being within easy walking distance of the lodge.

You have the whole river exclusively to your party. A maximum of two anglers fishing at any one time, with the lodge, which you have private and exclusive use of, accommodating up to four people in two twin rooms.

Days 2&3: You have two full days of fishing on the Brynjudalsa. You can control your own fishing hours and have private use of the whole river. It is a mixed species river; it holds a healthy stock of both salmon and sea trout.

Day 4: Fish the morning session on the Brynjudalsa, before leaving the river and lodge at around 1200. You will then head to the second river and lodge, which is the lower Grimsa and the Grimsa / Nordura junction – two extremely famous salmon rivers located on the west coast of Iceland.

The transfer will take you around an hour – you may want to drive via Borgarnes during the changeover, which is the nearest town to the second lodge and a good place to stock up on supplies.

You will have private and exclusive access to both the beat and lodge. The lodge accommodates up to six people across three twin rooms, but is ideally suited to four anglers. The river accommodates up to four anglers on a full rod basis.

The section in front of the lodge and downstream to the road bridge (beat end) is tidal (how far up the tide will push onto the beat will depend on the moon phase). There will be some stationery fish, but also some fresh fish pushing up and down on most tides. This section of river offers fantastic sea trout fishing, along with every salmon (thousands!) that runs the Grimsa having to run through this section.

The Grimsa and Nordura also combine with the Hvita River at this point, which is glacial. You will note a clear section where the Grimsa runs, whereas further out it starts to mix and combine with the milky water of the Hvita. This mixing water is often the running line of the fish – easily reached with a cast from the bank in most sections. Fish will often hold back on your beat, especially if the main river is low – it can become a bottleneck.

Arrive at the lodge at around 1500, then start fishing at 1600 – the river is located around thirty metres from the lodge. With most of the best water being within easy walking distance of the lodge.

Days 5&6: You have two full days of fishing on the lower Grimsa. You can control your own fishing hours and have private use of the whole beat.

Day 7:  Fish the morning session, before leaving the river and lodge at around 1200.
