Fishing
Zane Grey, the famous American author and angler, described New Zealand as an “angler’s Eldorado”. He was absolutely right, especially in terms of the trout fishing on offer, which is some of the best (if not the best) in the world. Especially when it comes to sight fishing for huge brown trout, which is what New Zealand is revered for.
Over the years, New Zealand has developed a reputation for having the best sighted river fishing for trout in the world. Owen River Lodge, with its easy access to the Nelson, Marlborough, North Canterbury and West Coast fisheries at the top of the South Island, is perfectly positioned to put you at the centre of all this action. Indeed, the area around Murchison / Nelson Lakes of the South Island has some the best sighted brown trout river fishery in the world. Owen River Lodge is located right in the middle of this region! This special location provides the travelling angler with an enormous choice and variety of rivers, streams and lakes to fish, with guests having access to over 29 rivers and streams within a 90 minute drive. If this wasn’t enough, Owen River Lodge’s position right on the boundary of Kahurangi National Park means you can quickly and easily fly into another dozen or so stunning wilderness streams.
Owen River Lodge has some of the best guides in New Zealand. All of the friendly fishing guides are born and bred in New Zealand and are members of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association. With their assistance, a day on the river is full of action, excitement and smiles!
accommodation and pricing
Owen River Lodge is a fishing lodge. However, the facilities and service they provide has been developed for the angler and the non-angler alike.
To ensure the absolute privacy of guests, they designed and built six guest cottage suites in the lodge gardens. Each cottage suite comes complete with wonderful views of the river, the valley and the mountains beyond.
The main lodge building includes the dining room, lounge room, sitting room, lodge shop, fly tying area and, of course, the bar.
One of the guest lounge rooms is equipped with Cable TV and DVD player and a Notebook PC for you to check emails etc. If you need to stay connected, they have a Wi-Fi network with 4G delivered broadband which is accessible in the main lodge building and in guest cottage suites.
In the lodge grounds, just past the herb and vegetable gardens, you will find the dedicated massage room and the outdoor jacuzzi / spa. You’ll also find the path which leads down to over two acres of riverside gardens and a wonderful deck area located right by the river.
It’s a relaxing place to unwind from the stresses of modern life – whether you fish or not! The Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast regions offer a myriad of things to do for non-fishing guests.
